Computer Literacy

The workplace is an ever-changing environment, but there is always one thing that is critically important in many companies today. That is computer literacy. Computers are a norm for any office, and have become irreplaceable. Knowing how to get the most from your computer is a skill that will never become obsolete. Computer literacy is becoming a requirement for all office-based workplaces.

If you work in an office environment, you will most likely be dealing with computers every day. Knowledge of everyday software packages, such as Microsoft Word and Excel is essential. These two software packages are widely used and accepted in workplaces around the world, so if you are yet unable to use such software packages, Job Search Express advises you to update your computer literacy skills. Many people may achieve this through outside course, by using such packages in the home, or even by learning them in the workplace.  Knowledge of email packages is also important for today's workplace, as email has become the new communication device within the workplace.

Computer literacy will place you above your colleagues as those with the skills are seen to  be able to get the job done. Ability to learn new packages quickly and effectively is also important, as you will soon learn that many companies expect computer literacy on other software packages in order for you to complete your duties to pre-determined requirements.

When applying for new jobs, you may be asked by an employment agent to test on certain software packages. Results from these are used to determine suitability for the advertised position, and are a quick and effective method for the agent to cull the numbers of applicants.

Computer literacy means another reason for you being the best for the job. Include all software packages you know and have used in your resume, for they each show an ability to learn and effectively use computer software.
